Theme was Spain, blind, pretty broad. This one was quite interesting. I read my previous note - it was agreed that it was accurate. But the guesses were all over the place. Oldest guess was 1992, others thought it was quite young. Grenache was thrown out there, but so was Tempranillo, of which we had already tasted several times. Rarely is the group that far apart. All agreed this was a pretty good wine.

Viniferatu has described well many salient characteristics. Decanted and gave it 1.5 hours, which was a benefit, still quite edgy--'tense and tart' is apt, more than 'surly and rough', as fruit and other aromatics are intriguing and develop nicely and tannin is largely in check in this bottle. Acidity is a bit over the top, but then it's something of a paradox of complexity and definitely has its moments as it morphs. Quite an amazing nose really too. One more in cellar and will give it a year. Interesting comp to a California grenache, Newfound Gravels, drank last weekend, definitely cousins in style though this was a step up.

Aromas of prunes, dried strawberry, blood orange, olives, baking spice, dusty desiccated earth, dried flowers and herbs. Tense and tart, especially considering it is Montsant. Very mineral and savory, downright bloody. Long finish is tart and perfumed, with reverberating crunchy red fruit and myriad floral, herbal and spicy nuances, and significant stony, saline and bloody notes. Surly and rough, this will be a tough customer for many palates. Give it lots of air (4+ hour decant should do the trick) and have it with food. Distinctive and complex, this is cool stuff. Hard to tell where might go from here, but it should be worth following for a few more years.

Nice effort. Pale garnet. Expressive, floral nose. Lots of cherries on the palate, almost sweet. But a lot of acidity, structure to stand up to the sweet fruit. Long, pleasant finish. Paired with grilled chicken, I really liked this.

Pop and pour. Bretty for my taste, but good grenache red raspberry. On the palate, much better, good acidity, red raspberry, good density. Very soft tannin on the finish.
