Purchased for $18. Beautiful golden yellow color. I noticed this was 100% viognier and got excited. Usually I try to stay clear of the "international varietals" in Portugal, preferring the regional grapes. But I do enjoy a good viognier, and one with 6 years of age? I had to try it. And boy oh boy, am I glad I did. This was great. Notes of peach, honeysuckle and hints of sweet nectar. There's also hints of oak and tar from the barrel aging. I love this. Grade: A

Viognier from Portugal, who knew? Actually, many of our favorites are grown in Portugal, especially the Alantejo region well east of Lisbon.
This is a delicious bottle of wine, Reserva, 2015 on the shelf now. Well aged, developing some color and aged white wine (honey and nuts) flavors. Complex and balanced.
Just finished the second half of a bottle I started two days ago. Is still great. How many bottles of white wine can you say that about?
Dona Maria is a standout producer in this region and they are active in more challenging areas like the Douro Valley.

Alentejo Trip; 6/3/2018-6/8/2018: Rich yellow color. Aromas of lemon curd, pineapple, rich yellow pear, hints of hay and nougat. Richer texture (14%), this is made with second-year oak and battonage, and that’s evident in nougat, creamy honey and butter notes, but there’s also some freshness and floral complexity. Bruised apple fruit is highly yummy. Fermented in French oak with six months of lees stirring, 14% alcohol.

Amazing. This wine is ageing so well. Six years bottle age and drinking now better than ever !!!
This could so easily been from the Rhone, on a tasting let's say, excellent effort by Dona Maria. Totally worth it ...
