I bought this from Astor last year, and I don't quite remember why I did. I opened it with some trepidation, which was unfounded. This is a lively and interesting low-sulphur quasi-Muscadet -- classified as Vin de France purportedly because it spent too long sur lie. (The label declares that the wine was made without 'intervention vulgaire.') There is a bit of prickly acidity in the foreground, but behind it is a soft, rounded wine, with a touch of orange-rind bitterness, and gentle melon and pear flavors. It held up very well, perhaps even improved, on the second day. I would happily buy more.

I also get the kumquat and ripe pears, I don’t know saké so couldn’t say if I agree with that but sounds reasonable. The salinity does remind me a bit of Chablis as well, but with the quite low acidity and round texture it makes the reference a mature Chablis from a warm vintage. Not bad this wine, but not something that I really enjoy. It’s the low acidity I think.

By the glass at restaurant. Basically a natural old vine Muscadet grown outside the appellation. Interesting in concept but less interesting than a Muscadet. Minimal aromatics, low acidity makes it a little flabby, nondescript yellow fruits. Meh.

Deep vivid yellow color. Kumquat, super-ripe pear, fennel. Daiginjo sake-like saline warm sweetness (although it is dry). Rich waxy mouthfeel with refreshing slight fizz. Finare Vinare’s positive remarks on 2014 vintage perfectly applies to this 2017 vintage too.
