Standard Rosso di Montalcino notes, bright red fruit, a little bit of earth, a some mint and a touch a graphite as it opened up more. It's zippy on the palate. It's not bad, but it doesn't have much structure and isn't too intriguing. I believe I paid under $20, at that price point, it's a relatively fair price.

Guessing at the date slightly, but this was a buy at K&L. I usually don't buy Rossos from Montalcino, holding out for the BdM bottles at somewhat reasonable prices, usually hovering in the $30-35 area. And I bought a bunch of '04 Poggio Salvi BdM for what I paid for this. I figure you get CCR for about what a Rosso costs and isn't Rosso just declassified juice? But this was really nice, priced around what a non-reserva Chianti would cost. A little rounder than the BdM or a typical CCR, but still Sangio with bright cherry, a little oak influence I would guess. Built for approachability, but I'm re-upping with a couple more that I will space out over time if I can keep my hands off them.

Medium brightness, dusty tannin, touch of cigar. Meh.

Tasted at Benvenuto Brunello in NYC. Very unimpressive, flat and uninteresting.
