Decent wine, but not particularly noteworthy for me. Not quite as smooth as the last bottle, which I had some time ago. My guess is that it is on the way down. Drink 'em if you got 'em.

Took this very last bottle to friends for dinner. Didnt really open it early enough to breath, so the first glass was a bit closed. Once it had opened up it was typical Rioja with leather and spice and nice rounded tannins. Still drinking very well.

Quite smooth and intense wine. Still very fresh but fruits are quite muted with tartness and tar dominating the palate. Ok with food, but would be difficult to drink without it. Finishing with dry sour tannins. Better than a few years ago when the tannins were just too much. It still puckers your mouth in the end, but food holds that back. I would rate this 86 with food but without it more like an 82. Shows a big difference. Too bad that 01 was a spectacular year for Spain, yet this wine still struggles to find a good balance.

(Bodegas Primicia Rioja Reserva) #1; COLOR-dark; NOSE-a little fertilizer/poop component; heavy dose of sour cherry; a little vanilla component; TASTE-very dry on the back-end; I like the fruit; complex mid-palate; tannins on the back-end make is dry and a classic food wine; I like the blackberry; some cranberry on the back-end; this gives me a bordeaux play for far less money; this will evolve nicely in a few years; if drinking now, be sure to decant for a few hours; JM-90; GV-90+

light on its feet and very elegant. Wasn't expecting much from this and was pleasantly surprised.

Much better than previous bottle: lovely vibrant fruit, reasonable depth and age. Good to have had the last one, though, given the variability.
