  • Spice on the nose but I don't really taste it. The palate is a mix of of tart fruits; plum, backberry, something else black-ish that I can't place. Lots of acid keeping things very fresh. Chewy tannins, soft but grippy, cheek-coating. Mostly primary, I don't get a lot of oak character and not yet tertiary. Very enjoyable already but needs to find a next phase of evolution to really wow.
Good now, but mostly I'm curious about where it goes with time. Wants 5-10 more years, I suspect, to really unfurl.

  • 16 Blue Poles Merlot
Note based on Day three look.

Elegant, low oak style. Not as good as the cab franc a few weeks back, lighter bodied too. Good to very good.

  • Beautiful nose of dark fruits, oak is there, but handled well and adds to the enjoyment. Could have been a Margaret River cabernet to me. Mouthfeel full and round at the front end with lovely soft tannins to follow.
    Yum.
