  • 2021 Mike Press Shiraz

This finds its groove, and I have to remember that this can be bought for under $15 AUD.

Have not had in many years, but this bottling is not how I remember this wine.

This is very high alcohol for a wine of this depth.

If you can get over the heat, it gets ths job done.

Preferred the Cabernet of the same vintage by a clear margin.

Will buy a box of the Cabernet, but will skip this vintage of Shiraz.

  • 2023 Cirillo Grenache The Vincent

Too young, and slow to open, but this is fine and delicious.
Lean, structured Grenache with white, almost green pepper nose.
Only just ripe red fruit. Medium bodied. Gorgeous perfume on the nose and through the aftertaste.
Takes some time to open, have left most of the bottle for us to enjoy another night. It will fill out with a day or two of air.
Serious wine here for $25ish AUD.
Very good, and would not be surprised if up to excellent range with a day or two open.
A great example of Barossa Grenache. The first I've tried from v23.

  • 2017 L'enclos du Tetre Riesling

Tasted on day four, it is still fresh and singing.

A much more citrus driven rendition, and leaner, than the 18 which was much greener and rich from memory.

Herbaceous notes steers blind tasting towards Semillon for a moment, but then the talc and stones start to shine pulling you back in to Riesling territory.

A shame this is no longer made. Length for days, intense flavour, and will last a very long time in a cellar.

It's not moved much in its first 7 years.

To get this quality, in this style, in German GG dry wines you'd be paying many multiples.

Outstanding. Look again in 5 years, minimum. Likely to last another 15. Thankfully under screwcap.

10/25/2023 2:58:00 AM - Hi Screwcaps, I'm going to be in Adelaide (ostensibly) on business and wondered if you had any top tips on good wine bars/BYO options in or near the CBD? Or, better still, catch up for a glass or two? cheers, chatters

8/18/2021 4:41:00 AM - Hi… the horizontal 2014 Hunter Shiraz tasting included the Kester (my favourite), Graveyard, Vat 9, and Rosehill … others less scores

4/1/2020 3:10:00 AM - Hi Screwcaps, that is a mouthwatering collection you have of Tyrrells and Wendouree amongst many others, with some overlap of wines I have from The Old World. Happy drinking in these uncertain times. Roger

7/8/2019 10:15:00 PM - to you too BBPP. That 17 Drumborg was a steal. I drank 4 before saving two for the cellar. Its very good now, but will last one bottle a year for you I think.
