  • Sweet red fruit, oak, mustard seed. Quite mature and open.

  • Online Blind Tasting #9: Broadening your wine horizon: *** Note is based on 0,1l bottles filled about 2 days before the tasting from 0,75l bottle and 0,1l two days after the tasting ***
Glass: Riedel Vinum Syrah / Zalto Universal
Clear, deep garnet color with tawny reflexes. Clean, medium intense, developing nose. Fine red fruit, warm spices, some dried herbs, some tobacco, delicate oak in the background.
Dry, high, wonderful ripe and perfectly integrated acidity. 13% abv. Medium+, velvet tannin. Medium body, very lean and precise.
Fine, sweet red fruit, some herbs, wonderful delicate oak as a backbone, Very round, silky texture, good grip, wonderful balance and tension. Very juicy and fresh. Long finish with fine red fruit, some oak and tobacco. Still a beautiful classic Rioja. Drinks very nicely now, but I doubt, that it gets any better. As long as the acidity is still integrated, it can last another decade, but again, I doubt that it improves. 93

  • No idea why people think this wine is past peak. The bottle I had was in early maturity and drinking splendidly for those who like wines with mostly fruit flavors. For those that like wines fully tertiary, I'd say wait at least 10 more years. Strong fruits, noticeable oak, strong tannic structure but was getting a touch of the earth/mushroom and leather I would expect. Medium body, solid acidity.

Decant for at least 1 hr, but this kept getting better when we finished it at hr 4, so feel free to decant for 2-3 hrs. This should go for at least another 10 yrs, probably 20+ for those that like fully resolved tertiary flavors.

  • First bottle out of a case of six. Pop and pour. Seemed a bit ripe at the beginning but gained freshness with some air. Red fruited, some plum, a hint of coffee. Silky tannins and zesty acidity. Not overdone. Nice wine, but nothing great.
