  • Poor Excuses (Taberna Palo Cortado - Madrid): Without reaching the level of that mythical 1996 Barbaresco bottle, this is another great wine from Gaja. Harmonious aromas of violets, wet earth, roses and asphalt, iron ore. Everything good that Nebbiolo can offer. A perfume. Deeply elegant and complex. Velvet in the mouth with an aristocratic density and a tasty finish. Very good length. Delicious aftertaste too. As the tango says, twenty years are nothing. Still has a lot of life left. Aspiring to greatness but there's not a sexy factor. Until the last drop. First Gaja ever for my dear Mexican namesake. Time has come.

    Sin llegar al nivel de aquella mítica botella Barbaresco 1996, este es un gran vino de Gaja. Armónicos aromas de violetas, tierra mojada, rosas y asfalto, mineral de hierro. Todo lo bueno que puede ofrecer la Nebbiolo. Un perfume. Profundamente elegante y complejo. Terciopelo en boca con una aristocrática densidad y un sabroso final. Muy buena longitud. Delicioso postgusto. Ya lo dice el tango, veinte años no son nada. Todavía le queda mucha vida. Aspirando a la grandeza pero no tiene ese factor sexy que tanto nos gusta. Hasta la última gota. El primer Gaja para mi tocayo mexicano. Ya era hora.

  • Vibrant dark fruit with licorice and a dollop of flowers and tar, intense but balanced with plenty of fine tannin for support. Excellent in a totally different style from the 1997 Giacosa Santo Stefano and more lively and nuanced than the 2000 Costa Russi tasted with it.

  • Her er det fortsatt 5% barbera sammen med Nebbiolo, som gir en litt mørkere kjerne i midten en for eksempel 2013 som er laget av ren Nebbiolo.

    Vinen har en herlig utviklet nebbiolo-frukt på nese med moden røde bær, litt sviske, tørket roseblad, trøffel, tørket lær og lett blyantspiss. Vinen har et raffinert og komplekst aromabilde.

    På paletten er vinen mer middels konsentrert men er fortsatt i høy grad levende og en vibrant vin der modne rød bær og trøffel leder an denne elegante og meget balanserte vinen som har en silkemyk utgang med fine lette kryddertoner. Alt er nå blendet sammen i vinen og lever sammen i harmoni de neste 5-10 årene.

    Jeg savner litt trøkk, men det er jo ikke det denne vinen handler om. Jeg tror denne vil kle en godt kalvemåltid med litt tyngre tilbehør på en god måte. Dette en meget god vin. www.botti.no

  • Dinner with Angelo Gaja (Singapore): Not the best nose amongst Tildin and Lorenzo. Very tannic but lively bright finish. Probably also the simplest palate amongst the three. Still very gorgeous stuff.

  • Har druckit 10 flaskor av detta vin tidigare. Nu näst sista i lådan. Har varit lite flaskvariationer genom åren men detta är en helt strålande flaska. Börjar nu få de första mognadstonerna.
