  • Final bottle from a full case, which we enjoyed very much over the past decade. Fully mature now at 14 years of age, showing a more feminine side and more subtlety than in its ebullient youth. Harmonious, beautifully integrated, almost fully resolved tannins, crushed red berries, rounded and ripe, nog signs of fatigue, very good length.

  • Very similar to my tasting note from 19 December 2017. Decanted for 90 minites. Harmonious and ready for business, but lively and energetic, deliciously expressive, ever so slightly dusty but couldn’t possibly mistaken for claret, crushed red berries and black pepper, meaty notes, very good persistence. Comfortably on its plateau of maturity, with no end in sight.

  • In the last two bottles, tasted in January 2017 and in December 2015, I noticed a development in the direction of a more Claret-like character. This bottle does not display that at all, except perhaps in a slightly dusty, earthy note on the finish. Other than that, this is all about crushed red berries, flowers, black pepper and other warm spices, with real aromatic lift on the nose, and a glossy, modern character on the refreshing and well-delineated palate, where it is just starting to show a hint of red meat. The new oak remains noticeable, but it is beautifully integrated and the tannins provide just the right amount of grip for this mature but lively wine. It has an impeccable balance, and only the slight lack of complexity and persistence on the finish betrays its modest pedigree. Stylish and attractive. Drink now - 2020.

  • VinoLaprisco Tasting (Restaurant De Karpendonkse Hoeve *, Eindhoven, Netherlands): Paired with the Saint-Joseph 2005 from Domaine Courbis. The only wine tonight to be overtly oaky - but in a very nice way. Modern, glossy, luxurious new barrique, rounded and rich, juicy and supple, good weight, ripe and well-balanced, far less about varietal typicity than about a polished profile (in fact it could easily be mistaken for a claret), but with its lowish if lively acidity and ripe phenolics, it is very attractive. Pure and richly fruited flavours, medium weight, very good length. A universal favourite tonight. Mature, with time in hand. Now - 2020+.

  • Quite a remarkable development since August 2013. Apart from a distinct richness and sweetness of fruit and a tell-tale hint of black pepper, this is now quite claret-like, beautifully balanced and cedary, but devoid of the drama and excitement of its youth. It glossy and modern style avoids the problems which many northern Rhônes now have with their tannic structure, but is it slightly undemonstrative right now. Still good, but it is probably worthwhile to give it some time to develop the complexities of maturity.
