Opened an hour before drinking. Ruby fading to a watery rim. Strong scents of black cherry and ground coffee. Youthful, fairly solid feel with a touch of soil. Deep but straightforward dark red fruit, minimal green, lively citrus acidity, and moderate tannin to resolve. A good, foursquare mouthful from very good material, I'd say. It will surely last, but my guess is that complexity will prove to be elusive.
Still incredibly fresh, sappy fruit the next night. Some nice smoke and herbs. Maybe I jumped the gun and was too negative about its potential to improve.

It's good to have a reminder now and then of just how great the 2005 red Burgundy vintage was. This $24 bottle is just better wine across the board than pretty much everything I've had recently from the 3 vintages that followed, and in more pristine condition too. It's just starting to turn the corner from youthful fruit to something more developed and succulent but still comes across saturating and sweet, with elegant wispy tannins turning more solid with airtime, which nicely complements its vivid evocation of stony earth. The poise and balance make this feel a lot more distinguished than you'd figure a bottom-rung 1er cru has any right to be. Ought to have a good decade of positive development ahead of it.

I haven't been drinking many of my 2005's yet, but the Pernots from this vintage have been nice for a while. Not overly complex, but a satisfying glass of wine for a Saturday afternoon. Ripe red & black fruit with decent acidity and persistence.

I had a bottle of the '05 Pernot Pommard Noizons last week that was really drinking well - this particular wine seems more primary to me at this point. The nose is pretty tight on opening and on the palate, more red fruits than black. Likable, but seemingly tied down at this point.

Developed a bit of furry animale that adds complexity to the very lovely red fruit. Balanced delicious wine that offers an awful lot for the money in this vintage.
