The Trust Your Gut 2017 is a fabulous Chenin. It has an exotic attack of quince then poached pear with a refreshing citrus acidic kick at the back. It is crisp with a fine acidic cut, focus, impeccable balance and good length on the palate; I agree it is a bit more structured and serious than the Kameraderie which I really enjoyed too (six pack disappeared in no time at all) so it should age well. But hard to resist now. Not hard to polish off. I have been impressed with virtually everything I have tried from Lukas Van Loggerenberg. He really is a fine talent.

Following a 98 Comtes didn't do this any favours, and to start with it came over rich, creamy, but simple, but the apple chenin core then came through. Lovely stuff.

Lovely typical SA Chenin. Nose of pear with touch of butter and caramel almost. Finish also has a soft caramel finish but has decent acidity and sharper citrus in the background. Bit of pear and peach going on. Well priced and very good. Wish I had a few more bottles.

South Africa Trip October 2018; 10/3/2018-10/12/2018 (Western Cape, South Africa): 45% Swartland grapes from vines around 35 years old, 45% Polkadraai and 10% from the same Paarl block used for Kameraderie. 10 months in old oak. no battonage, no malo. 13% lovely quince and pear nose, crisp clean linear with good acidity, some peach and a touch of green herbs on the nose, a good savoury finish
