If your sense of smell and taste can penetrate through the lumber yard of oak in this wine, you'll find it well made and uninteresting. Krug makes over 100,000 cases a year and the lab tech did a good job with: fruit check, tame tannins check, jammy fruit check, acidity check, its almost a bargain at the price point for a label stating Napa Valley. PnP, but benefits from 10 - 15 minutes slo-ox. Clear medium ruby with some fade to the rim. Clean nose with dark red fruit, earth, and charcoal. Medium bodied palate shows same dark red fruits and earth, along with some chocolate, balancing acidity, and integrated tannins. A bit on the dark side for merlot, and not overly complex. Should hold for at least a few years.

Got a glass here now sitting in Jackson Hole. The nose is candy store, licorice, and alcohol. The color is a good red garnet with a tinge of purple. This is a well crafted Merlot that comes on dark and somewhat fruit forward, but not too fruity. I particularly enjoy the earthiness of this wine, too. A load of dark sweet cherry on the palate and a dark chocolate cherry finish with soft chewy tannins. Not very complex but a great straightforward merlot I opened a bottle today and felt it was an 88 point wine and adequate for every day use. It's not getting better with age.
