Eye; brownish undertones. Good clarity.clings to the side of the glass on a swirl. Nose: wet, earthy, smells like a forest floor in fall after a rainstorm. Mouth: pleasent initial saltiness, like a savory mineral. Dark fruit, tart cherry finish

“This is a very… very … I do not like this Pinot Noir…. -Megan Damron. I opened the 2016 The Ojai Vineyard Puerto Del Mar Pinot Noir and Megan was so offended I had to open a Kistler to save the evening. (Happy wife happy life 😂). She found it off putting with strong notes of “bell pepper”. While I did find it austere I didn’t throw in the towel. After about two hours in the glass that funk blew off resulting in an amazing, delicious wine. A ton of minerals whack your nose and palate in this wine with sour cherries, sage, raspberry. The finish was like licking a rock on a beach at low tide. Love a curveball (and that there were Kistler leftovers…) Both paired well with Thai leftovers. -DD94

Excellent - very well made. Like all quality reds, this needs significant air time to open up. Light translucent color, subtle fragrant nose. Strawberries abound on the palate, mildly sweet on the finish. Evident the fruit is grown in a coastal region. Stylistically, this doesn't possess the earthy/mushroom component you'd find in Burgundies of a similar nature. I'm not complaining - just pointing out the difference between New World and Old World. Has plenty of stuffing to cellar for 5-7 years... who knows? If you've got enough patience, it might develop secondary characteristics...

Enjoyed this. Classic Santa Barbara county pinot. A touch on the thin side. Best on day-1.
