Community Tasting Notes (4) Avg Score: 94 points

  • Beautiful, intense nose full of savory spices, plenty of nutty ox notes, a raisin, Sherry-like red berry fruit and dried flowers. Given the complexity this is easily a 96-97 nose. The palate is fully alive with fresh acidity and structural tannin, but otherwise rather thin in terms of aromatics. Nevertheless, incredibly respectable for the age and with jaw-dropping stamina. Even after hours in the glass neither the aroma profile nor the structure suffered. But given a fading palate this does not deserve the 95+ stamp of excellence. If you stumble across this when travelling through Rioja or in wine shop, very worth a try.

  • Bottle bought from Helios.
    Warm brownish red, medium density - On the nose wood, leather, a bit of rose petals, sweetish vanilla like undertone
    On the palate silky and smooth, well integrated tannins and relatively prominent, but not aggressive, acidity. Medium finish, a great experience.Typical classic Rioja style...

  • The Return to San Sebastian; 5/17/2019-5/18/2019 (San Sebastian, Spain): When one is in the excellent Zuberoa where these old treasures were sourced directly from release trying these wine is a must. And we could not say no.
    This great 1964 is now in a fragile state, sold, well matured but very much alive and healthy. Just it needs to come from a well trusted cellar.
    Well matured, earthy, soft spice, lingering fruit, silky and very soft on the palate. This wine is an experience that needs to be felt and especially given the very reasonable to cheap prices Zuberoa charges a must for any wine lover. Granted this does not have the Tondonia 64 energy but still a great experience. No need to rate frankly.

  • Translucent color, brick;
    On the nose wood polish, old mahogany, licorice and some carob;
    On the palate it is very suave, a bit subdued first; still quite elegant although the sun will be setting on this wine before long..
    It has a good bit of old world charm and morbidezza attached to it, an aristocrat that is unafraid to go into the grave soon.
    Would go very well with a piece of game "bien faisandé".
