I've really enjoyed the Macchia offerings, but haven't popped one in a while. This time was a bit of a let-down. At 15.7% alcohol, this wine was hot. Once again, figuring that time would temper a high-alcohol wine has proven to be a fruitless effort. It's not bad, just not balanced. Also, judging by the CT listing, this is a year past the prime drinking window. A huge amount of sediment on the down-side of the bottle. As for flavour, there are dark fruits, primarily dark plum & some blackberry. A little tobacco & clove hiding in there. We have three other vintages of this wine, so it will be interesting to see how they come though.

Extremley bold and fuity, a bit heat from the high alcohol content. Almost a desert wine or a fortified wine. Hard to pair with food, excellent on its own.

deep dark inky color. tremendous nose of ripe plum, vanilla bean, dark cocoa, creme de cassis, and spicy blackberries. full bodied, and almost fortified-like. lush mouthfeel of super ripe jammy fruit and loads of vanilla oak. A bit of the 15.4% alcohol showing. a huge wine, but a bit over the top for me.

Popped and poured, and consumed bottle over two nights with pizza and pasta. Color was deep ruby-purple. Initially, the nose was a bit alcholic with mint, spice and tobacco. Alcohol blew off and took on fruitier aroma, but not overwhelmingly so. The second night was about the same, but spicier nose. First night, the palate was mildly blackberry on the front, then tobacco and spice. The second night was a little fruitier, but still balanced. In all, a nice wine, with a more sophisticated palate and less fruit-forward and jammy than other California zins I've tried of late. Quite reasonably priced.

Received 1 from a local wine club bistro and drank another at the bistro during another visit. I would purchase additional if available.
