Clear, singing grenache fruit, but with a bit of complexity from a little leather and other earthy notes. Delicous. This bottle was a touch corked, so I'm not rating it, but it is very promising.

Wow gorgeous. Better second day but still an impressive burst evening one. Day 2 a bit more ready still aromatically reluctant but not closed. Mouth has loads of both ripe berries and baked fruit at the same time. Good acidity, tannin and life but approachable. I mean, hang on but you can enjoy one now if you can spare.

Clos du Caillou's 2017 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Les Safres is a deep ruby, old vine blend of 70% Grenache, 15% Mourvèdre and 15% Syrah. Impressively fragrant and flavorful, it delivers a payload of dark bramble fruits, Montmorency cherries, Provençal herbs, juniper berries, clove and black pepper. Full-bodied, freshly acidic and with nicely integrated alcohol (listed as 14.5%), it accents the flavors with a judicious amount of oak. The tannins are plentiful but velvety-textured, making this lithe young Châteauneuf a joy to drink. Dense on the mid-palate and very long on the back end, this is a spectacular iteration of Les Safres that should show well throughout the decade. Drink now-2030.

iron nose. Integrated. Canned plums, meaty, marrow.

Awesome texture, elegant wine. Unfortunately a touch musty which did not blow off.
