  • pop and pour:

    colour: dark ruby
on the nose: pretty tight pre-swirl - little cherry, a little spice (nutmeg?). A swirl opens up a sensuous set of dark cherry, some cardamom, pepper, hint of nutmeg, and some gamey notes of fresh red meat.
on the palate: big, beautiful, refreshing syrah. beautiful mouthfeel. It seduces my palate with red cherry, dark plum and blackberry; when I come back begging for more it gives me warm spice cake, a whiff white pepper. then it calls me a bad boy and spanks me with tannic structure. an elegant, mouth filling wine. Long, well balanced finish - starts with dark cherry, ripe dark plum and a hint of raspberry. Just when I thought it's done with me, this spicy warmth shows up in my mid palate, and i'm getting the spice cake again with some plum peelings and a tickle of blueberry. This is an interesting, complex, beautiful wine.

  • Opened, decanted and served. Deep red in color. Sweet fruits, raisins, dirt, and earth. Lots of dark berries, and spice in the mouth with a touch of heat ending with gripping tannins on a long bitter finish. This is a nicely concentrate and heavily extracted wine that needs a few years in the bottle to integrate better.

  • Bright ruby-purple. Nose consists of dark berries and cherry. Flavours seem to imitate the nose but hesitant to show what it should be. None of the bacon fat of the tears previous. Silky tannins and nice mouthfeel suggest that this is drinking well now. QPR is poor.
