  Double Blind: Burgundy Style Point Noir $50 - $100 CAD: [Tasted Double Blind] This pours light ruby, edging toward purple in the glass. Clearly quite young. The nose is just a little too oak derived for my tastes showing vanilla, toasted hazelnut, a hint of sassafras, and dark and light cherry. The palate has medium tannin and medium acid with some mixed spices on the finish (seemingly oak derived). I wish there was little more going on here than red fruit and oak, but who knows, maybe some more complexity is to come with some bottle age. Just prior to reveal I threw out 2017 Marsannay and I had in mind this exact Audoin Marsannay as I had it earlier this year. Glad to see I called it and have a consistent score. Again I bought this wine on the strong WK review and was a little disappointed.

  This pours light ruby in the glass with light flecks of pink toward the rim. The nose is lifted showing light cherry, green bean, powdered candy, vanilla, pomegranate, bay leaf, and dry dusty soil. The palate is well balanced showing medium acid and medium minus tannin. The finish replays much of thee nose and is medium in length. This is will balanced, though I find the greenness and oak derived elements a tad distracting. Having said that, what I do like here is very positive and enjoyable, almost 91.

  Wow, did this outperform expectations! Much darker fruited and denser than I expected but without being heavy at all. Lot of orange peel and spice. A bit of light toast oak peeks through and rounds out the package.
