I don't like or rate otherwise sound wines that don't appeal to me because of what they are. Such was the case with this blend of 60% bobal and 40% cabernet sauvignon. I have no previous experience with bobal, and even at the very reasonable price of about $11, was ready to give it the benefit of a doubt.
Unfortunately, I don't like it. Dark purple color, the bobal presumably lends it a big, fat Sancho Panza-like profile, with ample dark red and black fruits spilling over its belly in a particularly sloppy and unappealing way. It reminds me somehow of overripe grenache.
I stress this is just how it hits my palate, and another taster might regard it as gulpable and fun, particularly at the price point. Just not my cup of B. I can't condemn the grape in an $11 bottle but it won't be high on my list to try again.
