Opened for two hours before serving with leg of lamb, Brussels sprouts, and potatoes. I had purchased this a couple of years ago and waited patiently, although honestly it could go a lot longer.
Very dark and concentrated in appearance. Nose was a bit tight at first, but eventually opened to quite a bit of earth and spice. Palate is an interesting compromise. Not the exuberant fruit and slice one would expect from younger Grenache-driven Cotes-du-Rhône nor the intense dry minerality of Grenache from Chateauneuf du Pape or Priorat. Those elements are all there - blackberries and cassis, pepper and allspice, loam and tar - but nothing really sticks out more than anything else. The overall effect, however, is a wine with real power. This is not subtle stuff.

PnP. Very young dark and almost bluish purple. Very young on the nose as well with purpley, grapey notes dominating and secondary notes of dried herbs, loam, black pepper and camphor to add some depth and complexity. Very smooth, rich, fruity and woody on the first sip. Lots of unintegrated oak on the palate. The flavours are similarly purple and a bit grapey, with all of the same secondary flavours there on the palate as on the nose. Nicely flavoured but too young and a bit disjointed at present. Also feels a tad hot. I expect this will be lovely in a few more years so lay it away for a while. 90 points for now.

Yum.
