  • This was quite closed for the first 60-90 minutes after opening. After opening started to show the balance and depth we hoped for. Will hold for a bit before oprning my next bottle

  • Decanted for sediment and poured back into the bottle. Solid cuvée from Ponsot which comes from a lieu-dit just below Chapelle along the route nationale. Punches above the village classification. Smokey, meaty and savory on the attack but with sweet red fruit to follow and a sneaky minerality streak. Good complexity and depth. I’m not a big fan of Ponsot’s wines generally but this was nice. Could drink now and maybe it was bottle variation/storage, but this was showing its secondary characteristics. Compared to other 05s I’ve had recently this was more open for business.

  • Clearly other CT's drank this way too early. Beautifull nose of French barnyard funk (that I love in my French wines). So much power and freshness in the palate with the right amount of acidity to bring everything in place. Sour cherry and tertiary notes all around. The finish is pretty amazing as well... and is just my first glass. TBC...

  • After two lovely old Aussie shirazes around the 30 year old mark, we decided, to some degree, to go backwards to Burgundy. Why? Because we can i suspect. And what a beauty was dragged out. One of my favorite producers this Gevrey was simply mind blowing. In the glass it was a deep thick opaque dark purple red and nowhere near showing 15 years of age. The nose did its usual Burgundy thing of protesting with off putting pong and mud and horse poo but we both knew this trick was not a long lived thing. And no need to coax this gorgeous young women to the party table as within 5 minutes the deep dark ripe cherries, plums and raspberries with sweet oriental and indian spices coating them started to waft through. 5 minutes after that these superb Burgundian Gevrey bouquet features lost patience with the earlier pongy part and forceably just dismissed them to the side and jumped the queue saying "Get the F@#K out of my way". She stung like a bee ( she is a Cuvee L'Abeille after all) but floated like a butterfly thereafter. At which point it was no contest after that, just a straight drop dead gorgeous knockout. It kept mesmerizing Tim and I both with , yes i have to say it - ETHEREAL - and intense nose and long and rich palate. One of the richest but balanced sweet, perfumed and fruited palates i've ever had from a Gevrey or any appellation in Burgundy . Perfectly stored according to the white dot on the side ( a great feature) and simply one of the best Burgundies I have ever had. And be in no rush to drink it as the dense core of fruit and lurking immature pinot structure is still hiding deep in the core . I suspect this will still be superb at 40-50 years. Like a supermodel who at 18 is breathtaking but when shes 50 shes even better. Think Elle Macpherson . Stunning. Given the other reviews of this wine either i drank something else or the rest of you did.... :). Perhaps it was a Rudy Kurniawan fake? If so, God bless him.

  • Tried again after letting my bottles age for a few more years. First glass was after 90 minutes of air. Big mistake. The wine was all acid and no fruit. Tried again after four hours and the acidity had greatly diminished and the fruit had come out. Not a great wine in the context of the 2005 vintage but a decent wine if given enough air
