“100% Gewürztraminer from Monterey County’s Viento Vyd, harvested 10/21/18; 100% tank fermented & aged; 13.90% ABV & 0.2% R.S.; 1,269 cases produced & bottled 1/15/19 @ $24 sugg retail.”
N: Grapefrt with flowers coming forward, poss undertones of spice?
P: Med body; Very RNDISH entry with NICE, ALMOST swtish frt counterbalanced by a varietal bitterness & a crisp acidity wich fairly seamlessly evolves into a LONG, ult pleasant finish with a dialectic of acidity/VERY slight bitterness + JUST enough sense of frt swtness to keep the 1st 2 in check. However, I'd call this as only "adequate" with the night's Veal & Spicy Sausages, Creamed Sauerkraut (HmMd), & Butternut Squash Souffle (Sltly Swt), at least one of those (I suspect the Spicy Sausages) accentuating the wine's bitterness. (Surprisingly, at least to me, the swtness of the Souffle was NOT an issue for the wine's dryness!) Drink now & through '21, poss into '22. My EXC- for this wine deserving of a spot in the dry Gewürztraminer genre. 91 pts WE (1/1/20) @ $22. [As of late May '20, wine-searcher still shows 5 sources from $21.56-$26].
