probably the best viognier I've ever had. qualifier being I haven't had that many but also most have been quite flabby and viscous. this was linear. but had plenty of fruit as well and there was plenty going on on the nose as well. no rush

Light to mid jasmine yellow. The aromas leap out of the glass with canteloupe melon and pear alongside peach (and peach blossom), apricot and creme fraiche. There is a hint of oak and a coconut edge. Incredible intense and a bold statement wine. A bright entry, full bodied with a dried pear/peach skin texture, lively to medium acidity with a broad mid-palate. Clean and modern, the core is filled with dried Bartlett/Williams pear, honeydew melon and yellow cling peach. The alcohol is well-integrated, and the mid-palate gives a fleshy peach pulp; the more medium acidity gives weight or 'heaviness' but is not oily. Classic Viognier, the finish is long with peach skin dryness and a floral lift on the aftertaste. Clean lines, without much complexity at this point but likely to improve.

Rupert is spot on. This is a fascinating and unexpected taste - and it is most certainly not Condrieu. Lovely accomplished wine-making. We must all hope that she can recover from the fires to continue making glorious wines.

Once I'd got over the disappointment that this didn't have anything like the apricot and flowers perfume that I expect from viognier, I began to appreciate this for what it is - a powerful, complex dry white which has much more in common with those whacky SA chenin based blends than with condrieu.

Full bodied, richly perfumed, powerful ripe viognier fruit, a big grand wine, absolutely delicious.
