  • This was deeper and darker than a ‘64 Santenay Clos de Malte tasted alongside; equally rich though somewhat more structured; slightly sweet mid palate with some cocoa powder(?); nice viscous texture allows more tertiary goodness to linger on the long finish.

  • Recently acquired from a French cellar. Opened and poured. Healthy red center with gentle gradation toward a very pale rim. Vivid black cherry aromas right off the bat, then just a touch of green. Relaxed nose without a lot of mature perfume. Medium to light weight that seems just right for a Côte de Beaune 1er Cru, soil base that carries through to the finish. Clear, remarkably vibrant red and blue fruit, little remaining tannin, excellent, wispy, persistent finish. A very fine negociant wine without artifice or pretense from a vintage that I have always immensely enjoyed for its balanced, long lasting wines. Not terribly complex and definitely not profound, its real strength and beauty lie in its fresh, incredibly preserved fruit after more than a half century of slumber.
