This wine starts a series dedicated to wine producers/makers who have passed in the last few years. Red cherry, Red Vines, menthol, SweetTarts, wood, a little new leather, and a little smoke on the nose. Tart cherry, cherry jam, more of that SweetTart thing, graphite, herbs, earth, and wood on the palate. Juicy acidity, grippy tannins, short-med finish that's not very delicious. It has that inexpensive wine taste that's hard to define. Lack of grape concentration? While one can say that it's drinkable for $4, that would be selling yourself short. Maybe spend a little more and get something a bit more interesting. You're worth it! I would rate this Average.

There is no reason to buy this. Even if your budget is $4/btl, you can get some fun boxed wines around that price (Bota Nighthawk Red Blend for widely available, Borsao Garnacha or Vieille Ferme for the good stuff...) This is both sickly sweet and grossy bitter, a mess of seriously artificial grapey/strawberry jelly-esque syrup and the kind of oak chip addition that smells a bit like distant cigarette butts. $8 gets you 10x better wine for twice the cost. $12-$15 gets you 20x better, very much including the sometimes decent trader joes "reserve" labels. And because I have to say it, it tastes a lot like Meiomi, just to put into perspective how disastrous that wine is. Even the boxed wines at Traders are better, and they're cheaper than this. Thanks for coming to my TED talk
