Community Tasting Notes (17) Avg Score: 90.4 points

  • Made with a blend of the 2014, 2016 and 2017 vintages with a mix of Chardonnay, Pinot Meunier and Pinot Noir. Bottled in July 2018 with 5,734 bottles made and of course Brut Nature.

Extremely golden in the glass - you can already see the more natural and oxidized style here.

Nose really showed this natural and oxidized style. Quite mature on the nose with bruised golden apple, apple cider, candied lemon, candied pineapple, guava, oak and brioche. Getting aged vintage and a slight Selosse vibe.

Even though the nose was mature and oxidized, the palate started off with a big hit of freshness - Red and green apple, red forest berries, ripe citrus fruits, citrus zest and some peach.
Then comes the creamy mouthfeel, depth and beautiful balance of, once again, more natural and oxidized notes. Cold churned butter, brioche, mature/bruised orchard fruits and grapefruit.
Such a laser-sharp acidity and so energetic with the zero dosage in perfect balance. Chalky, stoney and clean. Wonderful!

  • 12.5% ABV. 5734 bottles made. Blend of 3 vintages (2014, 2016 and 2017 for this edition), 3 varieties (Pinot Noir planted in 1992, Pinot Meunier planted in 1964, Chardonnay planted in 2002), from 3 terroirs (South-facing Lieu-dit Montreval with sandy soil, Lieu-dit Crayère with chalky soil, and north-facing Lieu-dit Les Cumines with more clay soil).

Fermented with ambient yeasts and aged in c.70% stainless steel and c.30% small oak barrels with MLF. Tirage in July 2018 without dosage. SO2 only added at minimal amount during pressing.

PNP into Riedel Yoichi glass ("No" day): Deep golden to the eyes.

Deep bruised orchard fruits like golden apples, brioche and hint of sulphurous notes that adds to the complexity.

Great balance on the palate, mellow finish.

Will pair well with almost any food. 94 points easy.

  • Champagnes and Rieslings at Cutlery Optional: Brought for a friend. Blend of 2017-2016-2014, zero dosage. I didn't blind this and I think some were biased by the label which didn't do the wine any favours! A little funky at first but blew off, definitely wasn't too out there. Oxidative red fruit, good purity but ultimately a little simple. Good buy at under $90, but not worth more.

  • Cidery, baked apples, natural.

  • Solid brut nature blend, nicely balanced but a bit short. Pleasant, and likely a crowd pleaser as far as brut nature goes, but totally fell apart after a day in the fridge.
