  • Popped and poured. Dark red with some browning at glass edges. Aromas of plum, cigar and black fruit. Medium to big bodied, still plenty of fruit with a distinct rustic qualify (very characteristic of Rioja) and still fair amount of tannins. Spicy and smoky with good fruit, if a bit short. Very enjoyable.

  • Dark red color. Opens with aromas of cigar box, confeture of mixed red and black berries, chocolate. Medium-full body, lively tannins and medium(+) acidity. Almost 20 yo and still a baby with a huge potential. Give it 5 more years to reach its peak.

Bodega Sierra Cantabria belongs to Eguren family. Known for its monovarietal Tempranillo Riojas. Vines planted in '50s. Vinified 50/50 destemmed and whole bunches. Aged 18 months in French and American oak barriques. Organic and biodynamic.

  • Tasted blind. Great nose of plum jam and smoke. Slightly alcoholic. A bitter, metallic finish ruins what could have been a better wine. Perhaps needs more time.

  • Popped and poured into 2 375s. Lovely dark red, even at 12+ years of age. Huge soaring nose of red fruits, scorched earth, graphite and a bit of smoke. This is a glorious wine. Medium bodied. Nice mouthfeel. Initially it tastes like it smells, but then at mid palate you get a whole other level of intrigue and it changes again on the finish. This has a resiny quality to it that is very, very good. On the finish you get a whiff of the American oak influence with some vanilla, tea and smoke, but it is really good going into a very long finish. Terrific wine for $30 back in the day.

  • This is the best Rioja I have ever had. The nose is so vibrant that it completely fills your senses. The body takes you on a trip full of fruits & berries with a long finish. It should continue to age well!
