Transparent fading brick red color, with significant bricking at rim. Cork was a .01 of a mm outside of the neck of the bottle, which is why i feel it seemed so mature. On the nose, fascinating evolved bouquet of game, minerals, cherry, tobacco, and leaves. Good concentration on the palate, a wine of medium body with a good elegance and bright acidity. The tannins still seemed to be a bit unruly, but the wine was indeed silky.

Deep color, transparent, and fading at the rim. Strong, lush nose of ripe red fruits, with a touch of vanilla. Very floral. The smell reminded me somewhat of the 04 Juan Rojo Toro Tempranillo. The palate features a concentrated core of ripe fruits, minerals, and leather, a bit rustic and bruising. Acidity is still medium, keeping it fresh, and there are more than enough tannins providing structure. This is perhaps the most tannic Volnay I have ever tasted.

Hit-and-Run Fun with Buns (Momofuku Ssam Bar): Elegantly textured, pure, sappy fruit with no lack of freshness. This tastes more 1999 than 1998.
