  • Wee kopishop wine lunch. Tasted blind. Drank in Gabriel Standart.
Appearance is clear, pale intensity, lemon colour with slight greenish tinge. Legs.
Nose is clean, medium intensity, with aromas of citrus green lime and lemon, light minerality ?steeliness, light smoke from a small touch of oak. Youthful.
On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium alcohol (13%), medium body. Medium flavour intensity, with flavours of citrus green lime and lemon, undefined minerality ?steeliness, bits of smoke, rounded almond nut with more air pointing towards some bits of oak usage. Medium+ finish.
Good quality. A very un-showy wine. Wonder if it will ever blossom. Made me think of some young tight Chablis 1er though. New age Meursault is like that now? Hmm...

  • Not to be confused with Comtes Lafon, which is the family domaine. Here with his own label (started in 08’) Dominique has more control and freedom to experiment. The wines have a shorter elevage, and the style aims for “a bit more tension”. This 17’ Narvaux definitely shows the less elevage as noted above, though it gives the feeling of being slightly underdone and light. It’s quite floral, with good acidic freshness, lighter fruit expression, though not so much coiled power for a young wine. Overall quite feminine and elegant, though I think just a little more weight and power would do wonders for this wine, which is fine and a beauty in its own way, but somewhat lacking in energy. It’s a wine that doesn’t stir much contemplation, though is quite classy and functional for washing down lobster and scallops, as we did with this meal. I made sure to give this plenty of time to show, however I didn’t notice much evolution. Ditto for day 2.
