  • A wine dinner compèred by Douglas Blyde (London): This wine is from Essex/London, England. Very pale. Sparkling buttered toast, lime marmalade on the finish, which is long. Coastal influence; lean. Only 1 barrel made. Nose of tar, strong oak, acidic. Green.

  • Atkin Chardonnay Comparative tasting (Lismore): (Tasted Blind): The nose initially shows pronounced oak, a funky edge (straight off is struck match) but this morphs quickly to aldehydic elements, almost softened shortbread or perhaps more a nut sprinkled sourdough! In between there is a bruised apple character. Then it seemed to be like slightly mouldy bircher muesli. That sweet and sour theme runs into the palate where there is a searing tart and borderline unripe acidity that made me think more of English chardonnay - that yoghurt and funk showing MLF yet still with a bruisingly high acid. ILinear in shape, the wine has a nod to Chablis with a salted lemon quality but seemed a little at sea at this point. However, in the glass it did improve so rated it up.
From the Clayhill vineyard in Essex in the Crouch Valley. South-facing, clay soils, planted 2006. Whole bunch press, Matured 5-10 yr old Burgundy coopered barrels. Natural AF and MLF, 30% is new oak. Seven months on lees. Sergio makes in Battersea.
