  • Golden yellow colour, ripe somewhat botrytis nose, lots of fruit playfully intermingled. Palate is rich and creamy, full flavor, certainly has depth, rich and slightly sweet but with bracing acidity to finish. Not sure if my bottle is prematurely aged - aroma, color and texture indicate at or slightly beyond peak, but closing acidity argue for 5+ years of stability. Wish I had a few more to judge....

  • very balanced, layers of precise tropical fruit within firm structure and great acidity.

  • At first I thought this was flawed. But with a little air just seems prematurely evolved (for a 2008). Or it might be slightly cooked. Hard to tell now.

It has a pleasant enough nose.
Palate is sweet (slightly more than usual for a spatlese) and extrovert with some acidity, giving the wine some edge and balancing the sweetness. Not overtly rich but has some nice spice which helps to achieve medium complexity. Some burnt sugar as well. Long finish.

Wine has evolved already in short time. Upgraded from "dont like - might be flawed" to "I like - 87 pts."

    Drink now.

  • upon opening, I decided to run the first glass through a venturi since this is Riesling is so young. Even with the extra air the nose was muted but a little Petrol, citrus and white flowers and some mineral. The first glass was filled with grip filled acid and a taste of ruby red grapefruit mixed with a creamy honey texture. After an hour this wine started to open up. Beautiful aromas of green pear, white clover and subtle grass and mango. The smell of mineral slate was match on the finish with sweet acid and a long finish that sits in the back of your cheeks, sort of like a green apple flavored Jolly rancher lingering tucked away back there. This should be more special in a couple yeears when the acid and flavors intermix a bit more. A solid spatlese that mimics an auslese when it starts to warm. 92+
