  • Delicious and refined. Nose full of lemon/lime, fresh flowers, sea shells. Palate had gorgeously balanced acidity and salinity, pear and lemon, maybe a little shortbread? Surprisingly refined. Not as complex as a GC burg or, say a Grivault or Roulot 1er cru Meursault but this is really quibbling. On its own terms : wow, so much pure enjoyment. Wish I had more of this at <$100. Just a joy.
Was able to match this up against a Boulay Sancerre Chavignol (which I love, but costs a lot less). The Blagny really showed its class. Both wines are priced about right relative to each other ( the Sancerre being less than 1/2 the price of the Blagny) and both outperform in their class about the same amount.
Score: 94. Relative to expectations: ++

  • The nose showed fresh pear, with hints of roasted almonds, light lemon, and smoky minerals. On the palate, I found rich textures with fleshy ripe orchard fruits, balancing mineral and spice tones with a core of zesty acids that kept it all balanced. The finish was long yet fresh, as ripe stone fruit and hints of orange citrus resonated on the senses.
