  • Tight on the nose. Blackberry, leather, forest floor. Elevation on the palate. Rich texture and finish.

  • Only decanted for an hour but extremely tannic. Needs another 3-5 years.

  • PnP and drank over two nights. Medium dark purple. Lightly sweet baking spices, crumbly blackberry pie, some green bell pepper/chive; i really like this subtle green element on the nose which balances the fruit and oak. Silky entry; it is powerful and dark fruited (tart blackberry, firm cherry skins), not over-done, some gritty tannins mid-palate suggesting much more time needed of course. I like it.

Day 2: perfumed floral note on the nose; quite tannic, needs food. I'd guess that giving it a solid five years would be the best idea right now.

  • On a whim, decided to open up this bottle to check in to see what Maybach was all about. My first bottling, and was curious on its state since I believe the 2017 offering is still open in some form on their website.

I've read that PnP have been working for many 2017s right now...but this is not one of them. Massive wall of tannis, mouth staining chewiness, almost syrupy like texture, with an overwhelming licorice bite and nose. I had one glass of this and put it back in my wine fridge. May revisit today or later during the week. Will edit my note if I see any improvement.

Edit: Opened back up on Tues 6/9. Immediately the nose had settled down off its booze-riddled licorice scent. The wine itself struggled, still struggling to find purity of fruit behind its wall of tannins. I was a bit disappointed in this, unless I just opened way too early. I think those holding should wait 3-5 years minimum before opening their first. Unfortunately this was my only one, but I will give the 2018 a shot next year when released given the vintage quality.
