Dinner at Bern's with Penn, Scott, Eliza, et al. This was out of magnum. Same showing as the a few months ago. Almost too perfect. Only downfall was that it was a little stewed tasting. Why quibble though, it had a rich sweetness that permeated all the fruit and spice flavors. As we've said before about the early Ponnelle's, maybe a dash of something else too to give it that richness.

First night in Mecca (Berns): From mag. Pale pink red color with very little bricking. Nice subdued black cherry nose with some licorice and briar. Big forward slightly stewed but spicy black cherry fruit on the palate with a good solid tannic structure on the finish. Lovely at first, the canned notes came through a bit more with time in glass. Hard to imagine this is a 55 year old wine.

Dinner at Bern's with Black and group. One of the stars of the evening. Stunning wine. Perfectly balanced, and maybe a touch of syrah (?). So rich and pure. Long finish.
