As noted in TNs for earlier vintages, this really needs to be open / decanted for an hour before drinking, otherwise the tannins are overwhelming.
But with time it softens: dark fruit on the nose; on the palate tart cherries, unripe redcurrants, quite tart, and still with quite aggressive tannins that coat the mouth. The finish is quite long, with both acidity and lingering dryness.
This is a wine that requires food, preferably of the rich, fatty kind. Given that, after an hour's decant it's a perfectly OK everyday wine, albeit a little pricey for me at ~US$18.
