  • Opened last nite, so this note is after bottle open 1 day: Medium+ ruby red. Berry, some vanilla nose. Palate: well concentrated sweet berry fruit plus more oak with some weight to the wine. Tannin is suave and the acid is very refreshing. Medium-length finish. I should be patient with the remaining few bottles to let the oak fade.

  • Easy to love, full of fruit and welcoming texture.

  • This is so delicious today, I am appreciating this easy drinking vintage. My typical peak drinking window for 1er Cru is 8 to 20 years, but I am throwing away the rule book for this wine and 2017 generally.

  • 2019: dark, tightly wound red berry fruit. Same flavour profile as 2018 but has a deeper core. Needs time to open and soften, though not hard today.

2018: like drinking candy- red fruit and vanilla. So fleshy and delicious right now, it shows such sweetness in the fruit. There is just a little tannin in the finish.

2017: similar to 2018, but lacking the intensity and showing a little wood influence. Some licorice and minerality on the finish. If you are looking for a burly, dark Beaune the closest you will come is the 2019, but even with that wine that there is immediate pleasure

  • Medium red berry nose. Palate shows significant effect of wood - as much texture as flavour. Try it again tomorrow... nose is the red berry and vanilla. Palate has sweetness to the fruit good concentration ( not nearly as concentrated as the 2018 MSD tasted at the same time) but it is harmonious, balanced and very tasty.

1.5 hectare parcel of 50+ year-old massale selection vines on clay/limestone soils rich in iron, in this excellent 1er cru vineyard at the foot of the slope in Beaune. (Near Pommard and below "Les Vignes Franches" and "Clos des Mouches”)
