Community Tasting Notes (3)

  • Hunter Whistlestop 2022 (Hunter Valley): Medium minus intensity aromas of lemon, honey, very slight lime, meaty, slight savoury underpin. Clean though. medium plus intensity acidity, tangy and tight, citrus, mid palate has some slightly bitter texture which is drying and (oddly) a little woody, a sense of slight alcohol warmth on the finish. I think this will improve with time under it's belt.

  • {screwcap, 11.5%} Pale yellow straw. Tight nose of grassy semillon with a lick of cedar oak. Dry, almost verging on underripe it seems, with a green plus oak character dominating the light/medium bodied palate. May need more time, although a half left in the fridge didn’t taste too flash the next day.

  • {screwcap, 11.5%} Mid straw, flashing with yellow. Plenty of colour here. Nose is young, cut grass with an oak edge, just the way you expect this blend to smell. Palate has a peaches and cream sort of flavour, with some straw-like semillon cutting through. Medium weight, with medium/high acidity, nicely balanced on the tongue, and with a medium/long finish. Classy wine, may age briliantly, possibly. Quite a blend of flavours with these grapes, so it promises well, although it’ll probably turn into old Chardonnay more than anything. Drink now or keep.
