Great deep red colour showing no signs of age. Now 6 years old. Lots of black berry fruits with tannins still coming through quiet strongly Some cigar box coming out with the long finish. A bit jammy with sweet berry flavours. Maybe needs more time to mature.

Hand-picked fruit from three vineyards: Old Block V9, North Block U12 and Weightmans Block 5. A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (96%) and Merlot (4%). Macerated with the skins for 2-3 weeks. Aged for 18 months in French oak barrels (50% new, 50% once used). 14% alcohol, 6,2 g/l acidity, pH 3,55.
Somewhat translucent black cherry color with a pale rim. Fragrant, brooding nose with aromas of sweet dark fruits, some toasty oak spice, a little bit of chocolatey mocha oak, light crunchy notes of fresh blackcurrants and a leafy hint of herbaceous character. The wine is ripe, full-bodied and juicy on the palate with somewhat sweet-toned flavors of sweet chocolatey mocha oak, some blackcurrant jam, a little bit of ripe plummy fruit, light vegetal notes of leafy herbaceous character, a hint of toasty oak spice and a touch of fresh dark berries. The wine is moderately high in acidity with quite ripe and mellow tannins. The finish is quite dark-toned and oaky with long, juicy flavors of bittersweet dark chocolate, some blackcurrant jam, a little bit of mocha oak, light strawberry tones, a hint of vanilla and a touch of succulent dark fruits.
A big, silky and impressive Cabernet Sauvignon, but not really a wine made in the style I like. This feels just too ripe and oaky for my taste; even though there is a subtly herbaceous undertone of leafy greenness, which I often enjoy in Cab wines, this is just too sweet-toned and borderline jammy for my preference. Furthermore, the oak use feels a bit excessive here; the fruit doesn't feel bold and concentrated enough to take this much new wood, making the wine appear very woody and quite chocolatey in style. I hope further aging will integrate those mocha tones better with the fruit. Overall this is a solid and enjoyable wine, if you like ripe and oaky yet not too big nor overdone Cab wines, but perhaps too modern and "new world" for a more classicist palate.
