  Decanted about 45 minutes. Cork was dry and broke. Still has wonderful fruit, though not the fruit bomb of its youth. Dark color with a great nose. Really enjoyed this wine. Glad I still had it.

  I was a little worried about this when I opened it. The cork was very soft - it stopped just short of completely disintegrating - and the color when I poured a small sample just looked somewhat off. But a taste confirmed it was still good, so into the decanter it went (through my funnel with the finest mesh!) to sit for just a few minutes before enjoying.
  And enjoy this I have. The nose is softly candied fruit and leather. The fruit bomb-y-ness of years past is gone. Now it's rich and mellow, with still firm but not intrusive tannins and a pleasantly lingering finish. It tastes of its age in all the right ways.

  No decant. Love the nose, seems like black cherry with heat. On the palate, the tannins almost hide the fruit on entry, so my guess is this will be even better in a few years. The fruit is more evident mid palate and on the finish.
  
  It was very good with leg of lamb, soft rice and roasted potatoes.
  
  Edit on 4/27: after three days in the fridge, vacu-vinned, this wine has opened up very nicely. The red cherry fruit is bursting through the tannins on the entry and mid-palate. Beautiful balance, nice long finish. Wonderful wine, upped my rating accordingly.
  
  Decant next time.

  Decanted about 10 minutes before dinner, mainly to filter. This was a nice smooth Cab with good fruit. Tannins were mellow. We had this with lamb chops with a chili-garlic sauce. It went well with both the grilled lamb and spicy sauce.
