Community Tasting Notes (1)

  • We first tasted this "port" at the First Colony Winery in Charlottesville, VA; the full name is 1607 Red Dessert Wine, 2004 Reserve. It's made from the Touriga grape in the "traditional Portuguese method." (They used to label it as Port.) It was our first port, and we enjoyed it enough to buy a bottle. (They served it at the winery with dark chololate, which was a scrumptious pairing.) We opened it for the first glass on March 17 (more to follow on subsequent evenings). The wine is opaque. deep red/purple, with a nose of cherries, chocolate, and woods. The taste is of cherry-chocolate, and it's a wondeful, smooth sipping wine. And it's also the only red wine I've ever been able to drink.
