Decanted approx. 30 min. ... The last three bottles of this I've had have been disjointed and tart. I fear this formerly smooth, lush cocoa-laden Zin is past its prime. Not terrible, but not terribly good either and very one dimensional.

Decanted approx. 30 minutes ... This is our third bottle of a case and it's back to being what I first found the Acorn Zin to be: plush, lush and deliciously spicy. Medium-finish with soft cocoa overtones, but not too big (at least not in Cali Zin terms), over-the-top or jammy. Big alcohol (aren't they all?) but well integrated and not at all harsh. Much more of a crisp and clean Cali Zin (a la Carlisle or Seghesio); not at all oaky or over-extracted this time out. Really loving this wine and hoping the rest of our bottles are like this one.

Decanted approx. 2 hour ... At first, while it still had a beautiful nose and big cocoa overtones, this was disjointed and a tad harsh; very different than the first bottle we'd tried (and bought a case on the basis of). Eventually, with about another hour in the glass, it smoothed into a very nice, if slightly oaky, Zin. Still not as lush and rich as the first bottle we tried though. What will bottle No. 3 bring?
