  Dinner at Binchotan (Binchotan, Singapore): Another very nice village. It had a clearly 2003 nose, showing lots of smoky toast, herb and spice, with a lift of sweet dark cherries behind. The palate had a nice chew to it, with a bite of 2003 tannins and some surprisingly juicy acidity framing fresh notes of dark cherries and black berries with just a hint of violets at the sides. The finish had some conviction too - with notes of spice, earth and toast riding on a lingering bite of fine tannins. Drinking quite well now.

  Consistent with my July 28 notes except that this bottle was showing a little better. Although the mid palette drop out was still evident, it was not nearly as pronounced as the last bottle and it seemed more generous overall. Maybe it was last bottle syndrome, but I will up it to 91 points this time.

  This is a perplexing wine that is mildly disappointing for the $. The first of two bottles from our cellar that were purchased on release (and our only 03 Burg).
  Served ~64F with seared Ahi tuna, grilled portabello, sauteed shitake, rice with toasted sesame seeds and slivered almonds, then cheeses to finish the bottle.
  Decanted 20 minutes before serving. Nice clear medium garnet color with a light silty sediment. just beginning to show some secondary characteristics; luscious strawberry and red raspberry aromatics with a hint of allspice. Round, full, and smooth in the mouth with pleasant opening flavors that are consistent with the nose. A very nice start.... but abruptly, the mid palate drops off and the wine seems to hollow out. The acidity is good and the tannins are resolved. Length, albeit at a subdued level, is not bad and it finishes cleanly. It didn't really change much as it warmed up over the meal. I was hoping for more from this bottle. At eight years of age, I am not sure where this one is going so I will drink the last bottle by year end.

  gourgeous sweet nose and silky mouthfeel, lot's of rasberry and cherry. the only problem is it missing that nice finish
