  Garnet color to the rim. Somewhat viscous appearance in the glass. Interesting pinot-like earthly nose with an obvious undercurrent of pepper/spice and vanilla from the new American oak treatment. After about an hour, the acidity has subsided but definitely on the high(er) side. Combined with the slight viscosity, coats the entire mouth in vibrant raspberry and bing cherry. Some smoke and just a hint, hint of gaminess during the mid-palate transition. Finish is a little short, but from beginning to end shows nice balance, minimal/no heat, and very finely resolved tannins (definitely not a dry wine). While somewhat primary, I had this in 2007 and I'm getting some nice bacon-y/game-y notes on the back end that lead me to believe this will still develop for a couple more years. To be honest I thought this would be dead, and while I'm happy it isn't, I'm sad this was my last bottle. Would be fun to see where it goes.

  Light garnet color - more pinot than syrah. Nose is a bit dirty and woodsy; some medicinal cough syrup bouquet. Robitussin on the first sip but the flavors open up to sour cherry and some spice. Tastes more like Pinot; had to check the label to make sure I opened the syrah. Good acidity and tannins are integrated and not over-powering. Very well done.

  On the nose, smoke and cherries. On the palate, medium-bodied with bing and lots of sour cherries, and a medium/long finish which turns very astringent.
