Opened 3 hours prior to drinking and determined that it was good to go and didn't need decanting. Sealed bottle. Later it was great with cheeseburger ravioli and by itself. Ripe, with a great mix of savoury and sweet (e.g,. Maple syrup). Svelte, sweet & spicy wine. Hard to believe this is a Texas wine. As good as it gets for Texas juice. My wife and I both agreed on the rating and we loved it when tasted at Calais back in Spring 2021. May be ok but I suggest drinking this up in the next year or so.

Garnet color in the glass, clear looking throughout. Nose of lavender, Kirsch, black pepper, a hint of band aid and some dried herbs hiding in there. Flavors of cranberries, red cherries and red plums. Medium acidity, medium tannin, full bodied. Drink over the short term.

Clocking in at 15.1% ABV, this Texas High Plains sourced Merlot is extraordinary. Chalk it up to the fantastic year that 2017 was for Texas grapes, but also for some fantastic winemaking skills. The dark ruby color is an eye catcher to watch when pouring but do let it sit about 45 minutes or so and just enjoy the ever-changing aromas of blackberry and currant. Take some sips and let your palate relish this medium plus mouthfeel jewel. Those figs start to delight your tastebuds along with hints of vanilla and spice. Acids may be a bit higher than most Merlots, but nothing a good proper feast pairing can’t balance out. The tannins are about a notch below moderate and yes, there is some sediment in the bottle for you hard core red wine lovers! This beautiful red wine is one to savor, so enjoy well. Santé!

The Texas 2017 vintage continues to develop. Cassis, hint of earthiness, chocolate. Beautiful garnet in the glass. Allow it to open up

Great example of how good Texas wines can be. Fruit forward, smooth tannins. Should drink well for the next few years.
