  • Lunch at The Ledbury with Andrew and Fletcher. Pale/medium garnet, broad rim. Developed, touch of farmyard, mushroomy, earth, spice, some underlying fruit still. Medium/full bodied, soft tannins, meaty, mulchy undergrowth, liquorice, spice - complex, harmonious, quite long. Excellent, fully mature.

  • Lo Hei dinner at Peach Garden (Peach Garden, OCBC Building): Pretty good. The nose was pure Gevrey, with red fruit, earth, meat and spice. Smelt a bit extracted as one would expect from Bachelet, but nice nonetheless. The palate had a certain sweetness to it, with extracted flavours of ripe black cherries and dark berries, but these were layered with a firm structure of firm tannins and bright acidity that brought the whole wine into balance. Just a touch woody on the tannins though - very Bachelet in that aspect - but otherwise a nice strong wine, with a good sense of depth and purity to it. Probably still needs time in the bottle to tame some of that woody extraction though. Probably one to try in 3-4 years time.

  • Just lovely; wonderful mature Gevrey. I loved this most when it had just come from the bottle and showed a deep cherry, furry, smoky, iodine, earthen nose. With time, the fruit deepened but I felt it lost some of the wonderful detail and complexity that accompanied the attack. Not one to hold, but a joy to drink now. At Core in London.

  • Bottle is in pristine condition. Nose is funky and earthy, almost Bordeaux like. Palate has tea and forest floor. Fruit has faded. Bachelet in the 90s was probably inconsistent like many other domaines. Better to drink the post 2000 wine.

  • At La Cabotte, with Andrew and Fletcher. No formal note - attractive tertiary flavours - mushroom, rich soil, underlying plum and bilberry fruit, not hugely deep or long and perhaps a tad grainy on the finish but overall very good indeed/excellent.
