Super expressive and deeply pitched cherry notes. Dense palate with grippy tannins. The heat of the Grenache starts to show a bit but otherwise very well done.

What a wonderful wine, but it could use a few more years in the cellar. Strong, chalky tannins resulting in a lingering finish, this wine is supremely balanced with amazing acidity complimenting such a well made wine. A refreshing treat of high quality Grenache that is highlighted by an enticing mixture of plum, cherry, anise and a hint of cinnamon to round out an offering that truly brings one’s palate alive. Easily a 95 point wine if graded for potential, though probably best after the tannins soften over the next few years.

I've seen Grenache listed as everything from Pinot-like to being a super heavyweight. Helen definitely gets the super heavyweight aspect out of her Grenache. Year in and year out, the Basilisk is a full-bodied, luscious wine.
The 2018 smells like cherries and candied apples. The palate is deep, rich cherry and plenty of slate. Unlike some previous vintages, there's no pepper that makes me swear there's Syrah in it. This one is pure Grenache with some earth. Absolutely delicious. The only knock is that it needs some more age as the tannins are a bit rough today.
