  • It's Saturday night ... we've had this wine in the wine refrigerator for4 years ... I grilled new york strips ... decanted it about 90 minutes before eating thinking that it would be kinda big ... NOT! It wasn't until the 3rd time we swirled and sniffed that we smelled much of anything - a light bouquet, not much for tannins, so smooth, but we expected something 'bigger' for the upper $20's from Hess. Sorry, we've tasted better cabs for less money. That being said, if you're looking for a good cab that can be drunk without food, this one fits the bill, but it isn't going to hold up to grilled beef.

  • Had together with the 1997 and 1999. The 1997 started OK showing well...but faded quickly. The next day the 1998 was still tasty...the 1997 tasted awful.

The 1998 was consistently good throughout the evening. Smooth with almost no tannins. Heavy oak vanilla flavour/texture.
