Bright acidity, gripping tannins, long finish. Red fruits, pepper. Earthy notes. A little bit austere. Great balance, very good structure. Intense but elegant at the same time.

Pnp over 3 hours. This is one of the best wines I’ve had from the ‘16 vintage. Unbelievable aromas of crushed flowers, cherries, and tobacco. Long finish of darker fruits, tar, and a hint of orange peel. This wine will age beautifully, but it’s also crazy good juice right now. 95-96

PnP over two hours. Much much better than the first couple of bottles I had 6-12 months ago! The aroma filled the entire room with red berries and rose petals and a hint of tobacco. It takes some time to open up on the palate, but once it does, it's full of dark sour cherries, leather, and cedar. The tannins were refined with the perfect level of acidity. I now need to open another '16 Marenca to compare. I originally thought the Marenca was a hint better than the Margheria, but I'm second-guessing that after having this bottle. Luigi Pira continues to prove to be one of the best Barolo QPR's

Deep garnet color. Medium body. Lovely perfumed nose. Rich fruit flavors of raspberry, strawberry, and cranberry combined with cinnamon, tobacco, and a touch of orange peel. Pronounced silky tannins and a bracing acidity. Great balance and structure, but definitely on the young side. This is barely in its drinking window and has at least another 10 year ahead of it. Elegant and excellent.
This was one of the first '16 Barolo's I tried so I wanted to try this again to better compare how it stood up against the rest of the vintage. This time I was less impressed with what this wine had to offer. It's still a good QPR, but at this time it's really tight and needs a lot of air before it begins to show anything. I drank this over two nights. The first night even after a good decant it was still tight. Very slight aromas of strawberries and rose petals. Tannins were a little stronger than I usually prefer. The palate had notes of darker fruits, oak, and leather. I still prefer the Marenca '16 over this. I would give the Margheria a 91 now and a 92 in 5+ years after aging.
