Given a lot of air but still found this pretty reticent both nose and palate. Has that refined elegance associated with the cru- very fine tannins and a lithe structure, but in terms of the mid palate and aromatics this was disappointing.

La Festa del Barolo: A Taste of Verduno (Locanda Verde): This wine came across as a bit younger than the 2015. A bit more tannin. A bit more austere. There’s some floral and potpourri but the finish is a touch quick. I think it just needs some time to open. Got better as we drank it.

Regrettably this wine was not ready - it's even at nine years still too young. Almost completely closed on the nose initially, so we decanted it. It did open up a while later, with a lovely heady perfume of roses and cranberries and smoky inflections. Tannic and tightly coiled, refusing to engage! Very pure and concentrated though, with searing acidity. Eventually it revealed more, but it's one for the long-haul.
